Alejandro Garcia is a strength coach and sports scientist with a background in both applied coaching and academic research. Onyx Performance Lab is built from that combination: a facility where every protocol is grounded in the research and every recommendation is backed by data.
Alejandro holds a BS in Physical Education (Sports and Fitness Studies) and an MS in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Florida International University. He is currently completing a PhD at the University of Miami, specializing in Sports Science and Biomechanics, the discipline that directly informs the testing and programming model used at the Lab.
His research work has taken him through two labs at UM: previously the Merrick Laboratory of Clinical and Applied Physiology, and currently the Sports Medicine and Motion Analysis Laboratory, where the focus is on biomechanics, movement analysis, and performance assessment. That research environment shapes how Onyx approaches testing, with protocols and measurement standards drawn directly from the lab, not watered down for a commercial setting.
Alongside the PhD, Alejandro serves as an adjunct professor at Florida International University, teaching Sport Nutrition and Intro to Kinesiology, bridging the gap between the classroom, the research lab, and the training floor.
His coaching background spans Division I collegiate programs, professional athletes, adult recreational clients, and youth athletes learning the fundamentals of long-term development. The same physiological principles apply at every level. Alejandro has spent years translating elite-level methodology into programming appropriate for each stage.
